"If we don't know what we want, any plane will do!" - Parapharsing a line from Alice in Wonderland
So, it is important to determine what we want and compare what the market is offering. This way we have taken a big step toward getting the best "Price-Value" for our unique desires.
The best way we have ever found to do this is to put it on the PQ Spreadsheet.
This spreadsheet contains the important data that has been gleaned from specific equipment lists provided by the sellers. In most cases, complete "spec sheets" with pictures of planes available for sale can be found on the Internet. Most planes for sale are advertised on the seller's Web site. Most of these Web sites are found on a "search engine" named "aircraftdealers.net". All these Internet listed planes are also on this Web site. Those planes can automatically be added to the PQ Spreadsheet with a simple click. Buyers may also contact the sellers directly, if they find planes advertised elsewhere. They can fax the specs and mail pictures to you. Once armed with all the data begin manually transferring it to the spreadsheet. If you have questions or need clarification, call the seller directly. Let them know you are serious, but just beginning a comprehensive evaluation process. Don't indicate that you love their plane, have so much to spend or are in a hurry. Just let them know that you are serious and will be buying when the best "price-value" opportunity for your situation arises. Developing an honest and friendly relationship now will pay big dividends when the negotiation phase begins.
If you have done an effective job up to this point, you have a spreadsheet full of planes, information and values. You are now ready for the next step.
